Travel to Maldives
Dubbed the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Maldives is located Southwest of Srilanka. An archipelago of about 1,190 low-lying coral islands scattered across the equator, in groups of 26 naturally occurring atolls. Atoll specifically meaning ‘ring-shaped coral reef enclosing a lagoon’, has a lot to say about the positioning and demographics of the islands.
Only about 200 of the 1,500 plus islands of the Maldives are inhabited. And only about a 100 have been developed into exotic resort islands that offer tourists their own getaway. This also gives the whole cluster of island a serene untouched look that is rare to find in the large cities that we are used to living in. The diversity in accommodation can be seen all over the Maldives. While some resorts may offer you cottages or huts to stay in, you could expect air conditioned rooms in plush resorts on some islands. As beautiful as Maldives is, its surrounding waters are just as beautiful. A session or two in snorkeling in the coral reefs would leave you spell bound. Getting to the Maldives isn’t hard. Maldives is 45 minutes from Colombo, the capital city of Srilanka. Most chartered airlines ply flights to the Maldives thus making traveling to the islands relatively easy.
