Sikkim

Situated in the Eastern Himalayas, Sikkim is a brilliant place to visit. The second smallest state in India, Sikkim was an independent monarchy until the year 1975. Sikkim is best known for housing the third highest mountain peak in the world Mt. Kanchendzonga. This mountain is worshiped by the locals as the guardian deity of the state. Amongst the places to see in Sikkim, the colourful Gompas or Buddhist monasteries are an important stop. The Rumtek monastery near and the Tashiding & Pemayangste monasteries are the most important.
