Amritsar

One of the most traveled to destinations, Amritsar is home to some of the most holy religious sites in India. The Golden Temple laid in the 14th century by Guru Ram Das, is claimed to be one of the holiest sites of the Sikhs. This temple plays host to hundreds of visitors of various religions through out the year. The Durgiana Mandir is another example of a religious spot in Amritsar. It is a temple located close to the Golden Temple where Godess Durga is worshiped.

Apart from religious sites, The Jalianwala Bagh and Wagah border are two sites that attract many a visitor to Amritsar. The Jalianwala Bagh is famous for the Jalaianwala Bagh massacre where hundreds of Punjabis were set on fire on the command of British General Dyre during the Baisakhi festival in the year 1919. The Wagha border is the border that separates the two countries of India and Pakistan. Located barely 28 kms away from the town of Amritsar; the ‘Change of Guards’ ceremony held every sunset draws spectators by the hundreds.
