Allahabad

Located about 135 kms west of Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) Allahabad is world famous for holding the ‘Kumbh-Mela’. The rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati (mythical) find a meeting point in Allahabad called the ‘Sangam’. It is said in holy Hindu scriptures that Lord Bhrama (The creator of the Universe) chose Allahabad to be the tiny piece of land on earth where the three rivers could flow into harmony.

It was the Mughal emperor Akbar who named this city ‘Illahabad’ in the year 1575. Today Allahabad is an important city in Uttar Pradesh where Religion, history and culture converge very much like that of the 3 holy rivers. Among the sights to see, make sure that you do not miss visiting the Swaraj Bhavan, Khusro Bagh and Hanuman Mandir.
